Prime Minister

Asked if we recognised the FT story about the Prime Minister getting a top European job after he stepped down, the PMS replied that the range of stories in this morning’s papers illustrated perfectly what we had always known, that there would be a great deal of speculation over the Prime Minister’s future at this time. The reality was, as we had said yesterday, decisions were yet to be made – and that remained the case today.
Asked if this covered talk of the Prime Minister standing down as an MP before the next general election, the PMS replied that no decision had been taken. As we had said before, next week the Prime Minister would be make a statement regarding his role as leader of the Labour Party.
Asked to confirm the very detailed story in the Telegraph that the Prime Minister had been having job discussions with his "gang of four", the PMS replied that we would not be commenting on any of the speculation.
