Football racism

Asked if the Prime Minister thought Spain should have apologised for the racist chants that occurred during a football match last night, the PMS said the Prime Minister, like everyone, was very disappointed with what had happened last night. He believed that racism had no part to play in sport or anywhere else, and he also believed that we had made real progress in kicking racism out of British football. The PMS said Richard Caborn had indicated that he would be writing to his Spanish counterpart, as well as to the football authorities.

Asked if the Prime Minister was going to take it any further, the PMS repeated that he was very disappointed, but it would be better to wait and see what the reaction from the authorities would be.

Asked if the Prime Minister thought the Spanish coach should be sacked, the PMS said again it was a matter for the football authorities.

Asked if the Prime Minister had seen the match, the PMS replied that he had not.

  2. Joe, we probably need a little clarity here.

Are you passionately ‘for’ or ‘against’ racism in football?

Either way, it’s probably worth looking at the fanzines produced by the supporters’ clubs. Some of them are available on line.

Millwall Lions are quite interesting as a breed. Apparently nobody likes them and they don’t really seem to care about it.

  3. hi, like Joe i am also female, very passionate about football, and therefore have chosen it as my coursework topic for my GCSEs. i am trying to prove that racism DOES exist in football, (which everyone knows it does) and i am definetly agianst it. My questions that need answering are:
    a) has there been an increase in racism, in the past three years? (statistics would be most helpful)
    b) what different forms of racism are there? What are the effects of each?
    c) what are the causes of racism?
    d) is there any progress in tackling racism?
    e) how successful are these methods of resolution?

Any additional case studies or reference to articles will be most welcome. thank yoo for your time and help, it will be most appreciated.

  5. Instead of looking negatively for rascism in football try a more positive approach. The racial and ethnic mix of teams is fantastic and the way the British (increasingly of all hues, origins and beliefs) have opened their arms to the world ought to be praised, welcomed and encouraged. The small minded rascist few are on the run and in the minority. The worst thing that could happen is if the religious, sexist fascists move in to replace them. How about looking at women in football and the constraints on them?

  6. Is Sharon Blair a member of Milwall Lions then too, Chuck? Nobody likes her either.

  7. Well it all depends on what you mean by ‘like’, I guess. I’m sure her ‘alternative’ therapists – and, God knows, there must be several thousand of them – ‘like’ her, as must her various sycophants.

But wait till she leaves Downing Street – and may that please be soon – and then start counting the numbers. Even now they are all touting their ‘books’ around the publishers, and the stunning (in every sense) Cherie should remember that these people are not governed by any Civil Servant’s codes.

Visions of Cherie in various compromising positions are just too dreadful to contemplate – but the stories will out…..
