Terror Trial

Put that the Prime Minister referred to Muktar Ibrahim directly in his answer today at PMQs and what was he looking at specifically in regard to the case, the PMS said that what he was referring to was the issue around what happened in relation to people who had been charged with terrorism offences and whether or not they could subsequently travel abroad. What the Prime Minister said was that he had asked the Home Secretary to look into this matter.

Pre-Budget Report

Put that the Prime Minister had mentioned the Pre Budget Report (PBR) in October, and did he really mean that, the PMS replied that we had not made any announcements today on dates for the PBR. That would be a matter for the Chancellor, and he had not yet made any such announcement.

Al Qaeda

Asked if the PMS had anything further to say on Al Qaeda, the PMS said he had nothing further to add to what was said yesterday.

Salman Rushdie

Asked what the Prime Minister thought about the decision to award Salman Rushdie a knighthood, the PMS said that the Prime Minister believes the decision to award Salman Rushdie was made on the basis on his contribution to literature. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office made it clear yesterday no offence was intended to the Islam faith.

Citizen Juries

Asked about citizen's juries and consultation on the draft legislative programme, the PMS said regional Ministers and the relevant Secretaries of States would take this forward. They would take forward the consultative progress on the draft legislative programmes and hold consultations throughout the country. People were able to also express their views on the draft legislative programme on the Cabinet Office and the Leader of the House of Commons websites. In terms of the specific events journalists should keep in touch with the Cabinet Office.

Asked whether the Prime Minister had prepared for PMQs more thoroughly this week, the PMS said the Prime Minister always prepared thoroughly for all his parliamentary events.

Asked whether there would be more resources available to armed forces, the PMS said the army would have whatever resources it needs to do its job.

International Monertary Fund (IMF)

Asked how vigorously would the Prime Minister be campaigning for Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the PMS said we think there should be an open process consistent with the decision of the IMF board.

Asked when did the Prime Minister have an audience of Her Majesty the Queen, the PMS said yesterday.

Iraq

Asked whether there had been any discussion between the Prime Minister and President Bush about the next phase of US strategy in Iraq, the PMS said the Prime Minister spoke to President Bush on a regular basis, but he was not going to get into content or substance.
