Asked if the Prime Minister had any thoughts on the floods, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was keen to be kept fully informed of what was happening. He had spoken to the leaders of the councils of Sheffield, Doncaster and Hull in recent days. As people knew, John Healey was co-ordinating the Government’s response to the floods, Hilary Benn had visited the region in recent days, and Hazel Blears and Alan Johnson were visiting today.
Asked if there was an EU fund being made available for natural disasters, the PMS replied that we were looking at a number of options in terms of Government support that could be made available to help victims of the flood.
Asked when the funding might become available, the PMS replied that we were looking at this as a matter of urgency.
