Darfur

The PMOS said that the Prime Minister will talk to Kofi Annan about the situation in Darfur following the preliminary agreement with the Sudanese government on the situation there, we believed that it is an important breakthrough, but the next few days could be critical because of the need to confirm the detail of the agreement, particularly the detail on the hybrid African Union/UN force. The Prime Minister is determined that he will play his part in helping to turn this agreement into concrete action by talking to Kofi Annan and other international leaders.
Asked if this was the second time this week the Prime Minister spoke to Kofi Annan, the PMOS said no, the Prime Minister had been due to speak to Kofi Annan yesterday but did not as Kofi Annan was tied up in negotiations over Sudan so the call was going ahead today instead.
