Asked if there would be any Prime Ministerial participation in Live 8, the PMOS said that clearly the Prime Minister supported Live 8. The physical manifestation of that was his appearance on MTV yesterday alongside Bob Geldof.

Of course it was! This is his only chance to redeem himself in the eyes of the nation and the world, after Iraq, the EU summit, ID cards… Centre stage and smiling to camera please… excuse the cynicism, but political grandstanding of this nature is hard to stomach.
