Unemployment

Asked for the Prime Minister s view on rising unemployment and the expectation that it would hit two million by the end of the year, the PMS replied that he was not going to make any forecasts Tony McNulty had also declined that offer several times this morning in his interviews. The Prime Minister did answer a question on this earlier today, just before the figures came out, where he said that we would do everything we could to help create jobs and help people maintain their jobs in the British economy. Unemployment and redundancies were something that we wished to avoid wherever possible, and we would do everything in our power to help people who had to move jobs into new jobs, where there were vacancies that existed.
