» Wednesday, October 15, 2008Iceland & Local Authorities
Put that John Healey would be meeting with the Local Government Association, and asked if we were expected anything concrete to come out of the meeting, the PMS replied that as Hazel Blears had already said, The Department of Communities and Local Government had already taken action to help support Local Authorities in the form of a new joint rapid response unit, which had been set up and was already in operation deploying financial experts to Local Authorities who had expressed a need for assistance. It will also provide tailored support to ensure that they had the appropriate expertise. We recognised that a small number of authorities had said that they had specific problems, and these people were deployed to help them. Asked what the meeting hoped to achieve, the PMS replied that it was best to wait for the meeting to finish for the outcome. Asked if we would be disclosing information about any more organisations affected that we did not know about already, the PMS replied that it was best to check with the Department of Communities and Local Government whether they were going to produce a list of Local Authorities, but he was not aware that we were.
