» Monday, November 13, 2006The Queen’s Speech
Put that the Conservatives had said that the Prime Minister was playing politics with the long term security threat, the PMOS said that rather than responding to the Opposition, he would respond to the Rowntree Trust this morning. People should reflect on the message that was reported from Dame Manningham-Buller last week, as well as the outcome from the Barot case. That showed that the terrorist threat that we faced was very real. Asked if the Government had any plans to review the 28 day detention period, the PMOS said that our overall position was that we would have preferred a longer period, and we had argued for one, but we had accepted the rule of Parliament. Again, if the police had views on this, then we would listen to those views. Briefing took place at 15:00 | Search for related news Original PMOS briefings are © Crown Copyright.
