North Korea
Asked if Margaret Beckett would be making a statement today on North Korea, the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) said no decision had yet been taken. Mrs. Beckett yesterday spoke to the Foreign Ministers of China, Japan and Dr. Rice, and she would continue her work on that.

Soldiers’ Awards
Asked what was the reasoning behind the change of heart regarding the awards, the PMOS replied that for the details, people should wait for Des Browne's statement later today. As the Prime Minister had said this morning during his visit in East London, we recognised that it was not just the contribution that the Armed Forces made in general, but in particular, in these current campaigns, and the very real sacrifice that they made. Therefore, it was a way of acknowledging that effort.

Trident
Asked by the Independent when the Cabinet would discuss Trident, the PMOS said whenever it seemed appropriate to do so, given the exhaustive process of analysis that was going on.
