North Korea

Asked if Margaret Beckett would be making a statement today on North Korea, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman (PMOS) said no decision had yet been taken. Mrs. Beckett yesterday spoke to the Foreign Ministers of China, Japan and Dr. Rice, and she would continue her work on that.
Asked for an update on North Korea, the PMOS said that we were moving from yesterday, where the Security Council made clear its unified condemnation of North Korea, to the detailed discussion of what measures would be adopted. We had to wait and see what the consensus was around the table.
Put that John Bolton in an interview today had not ruled out military action, the PMOS said that if people actually looked at what Mr. Bolton had said, they would see that he had said that the US never ruled out military action. However, John Bolton had made absolutely clear that they US was committed to a diplomatic and political solution to this issue.
