Soldiers’ Awards

Asked what was the reasoning behind the change of heart regarding the awards, the PMOS replied that for the details, people should wait for Des Browne’s statement later today. As the Prime Minister had said this morning during his visit in East London, we recognised that it was not just the contribution that the Armed Forces made in general, but in particular, in these current campaigns, and the very real sacrifice that they made. Therefore, it was a way of acknowledging that effort.
Asked how the areas would be defined, the PMOS said again that people should wait for Des Browne’s statement, as the PMOS did not want to pre-empt it.
Asked if the awards would be specific to Iraq and Afghanistan, the PMOS repeated that people should wait for the statement.
