Asked if the Government were in talks with General Motors (GM) regarding a bailout, the PMS said that the Department for Business (BERR) was due to meet a range of motor manufacturers in the coming days.
Put that GM was allegedly asking the Government for 440 million in return for a stake in the company, the PMS said that BERR and the Secretary of State had been talking to motor manufactures over the recent weeks and months to discuss particular problems faced by that sector. For any individual proposals from particular organisations it was best to speak to BERR.
