Strikes
« Cabinet | Back to most recent briefing | Lobbying Investigation »
Put that British Gas workers had voted for strike action, and tomorrow we have public sector, Civil Servant strike action and Unite and RMT are apparently going to decide on Thursday for strike action, the PMS was asked whether the Prime Minister feared we are in a new age of industrial strikes. The PMS replied that what we don’t know is whether these will be actual strikes and obviously that is a matter between the companies and the British Gas engineers involved. Clearly any industrial dispute was for the company and the relevant parties to resolve themselves and in different situations there are different mechanisms available.
Asked if the Prime Minister had any qualms about crossing the picket lines to get to the Commons, the PMS said the Prime Minister would be at his usual place at the Dispatch Box at midday for PMQs.
