BA Strike
« Prime Minister’s Speech | Back to most recent briefing | Lobbying »
Asked if the Prime Minister would intervene in the BA strike, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had been following the situation closely and made clear what he felt last week; the strike was in no one’s interest and would cause unacceptable inconvenience to passengers. The Prime Minister urged for the strike to be called off immediately and for the management and work force to get together without delay. The people who really suffered throughout this period were the customers and the Prime Minister continued to take the view that the parties in this industrial dispute needed to come together.
Asked if the Prime Minister had spoken to senior figures at BA or Unite over the past few days, the PMS said that we didn’t comment on who the Prime Minister may or may not have spoken to but he was following the situation closely.
Asked if the Prime Minister commended BA staff members who crossed the picket lines over the past few days, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was keeping a close eye on the situation and had made his views clear.
