Mephedrone
« BA Strike | Back to most recent briefing | Unemployment »
Asked if the Prime Minister was minded to legislate following the deaths of two people who had allegedly taken Mephedrone, the PMS said that this was a very sad and difficult case. The Prime Minister’s sympathy was with the families of the two young men who had died this week. The cause of death was currently being investigated, but the Government had asked the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) to look at Mephedrone and they would be meeting soon to discuss it.
Asked if the ACMD made a clear recommendation to ban Mephedrone would the Government accept it, the PMS replied that he would not be saying anything more at this stage. It was still in the early stages and whatever the recommendation was, the Government would act quickly.
