Asked if the Prime Minster would say anything about the date of the Budget during his economy speech this week, the PMS said that the Chancellor would announce the date of the Budget at the appropriate time.
Asked if the Prime Minister would be meeting with the Icelandic Prime Minister, the PMS said that the Treasury was leading negotiations and we remained committed to reaching a final agreement with Iceland in due course.
Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the Justice Secretary that there needed to be a review into whether or not details of the Jon Venables case should be in the public domain, the PMS said that the Justice Secretary had not used the word review. This was a very sensitive issue and the Government had spoken on this a few times, including the Prime Minister last week. There was a balance between the legal situation, the public concern and the rights of the individual. There was nothing further to add to what the Justice Secretary said this morning.
