Public Sector Pay

Asked if a public sector pay freeze would apply in the case of three year deals, the PMS said that three year deals would continue to roll out and that the current three year deals were due to run out in the final year of the current spending review.

Asked for an estimate of how much a pay freeze would save, the PMS said it was best to speak to the Treasury for details; Liam Byrne had written to the Pay Review Body.

Asked if the Prime Minister was disappointed that news of the public sector pay freeze had leaked during the Conservative Party Conference, the PMS said that there was always a timetable and a series of meetings regarding such issues, but sometimes details got out; there was no plan for that to happen during the Conservative Party Conference.
