10p Tax
« Presidents Obama and Medvedev | Back to most recent briefing | Cabinet »
Asked if the Prime Minister was happy that the Government had done everything possible to help those who had been adversely affected by the 10p tax, the PMS said that, as the Chancellor had said, we had set out the best and most affordable way to provide support to lower-middle income households.
Asked if the Prime Minister accepted that some households were still worse off as a result of the 10p tax, the PMS said that we believed that the measures we had set out provided the best and most affordable ways to provide support to lower-middle income households. It was important to remember that we had also implemented tax credits, which provided support for families, as well as measures that were set out in the 2008 Pre Budget Report.
Asked if there would be a change of policy on the 10p tax by the end of the day, the PMS said that what the Government had set out was the best, fairest and most affordable way to provide support now to lower-middle income households.
