Asked if the Gallagher Review was expected on Monday and who was leading on it, the PMS confirmed that it was expected on Monday and that the Department for Transport were leading on it. Asked for the Prime Minister’s views on Shahid Malik’s comments about being a British Muslim politician and Muslims being "the Jews of Europe", the PMS said that, as we understood it, Shahid Malik was reported to have made some comments in a programme which was not due to be broadcast until next week and as such we would not comment on something which we had not seen. However, the Government did take all issues regarding integration and community cohesion very seriously, and whilst the overwhelming majority of people in this country lived successfully side by side, we could not take that for granted. Asked if there was going to be a Cabinet meeting next week, the PMS said that there would be and that it would take place on Thursday. Asked if there would be the usual stand-in at Prime Minister’s Questions next week, the PMS said yes. Asked when the Prime Minister would be going on holiday, the PMS said that we would let people know as and when we had anything to say on the subject.
