Lord Chief Justice on Sharia Law

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the Lord Chief Justice’s comments on Sharia Law, the PMS said that the Prime Minister’s view on this was very clear; Sharia Law had no jurisdiction in England and Wales, and the Government had no intention on changing this position.

Put that that meant Lord Phillips was wrong, the PMS said, as a journalist had said in yesterday afternoon’s press briefing, the Lord Chief Justice’s speech was one which required some interpretation, and it was clear that some journalists had succeeded in putting an interpretation on it this morning.
