Turkey/Iraq

Asked if the Prime Minister would be saying anything on reported Turkish incursions in Iraq, the PMS replied that there was nothing to add to what the Prime Minister said yesterday where he spoke at great length about this.

Put that the Prime Minister had said yesterday that he wanted a solution by diplomatic means, and Turkey were now shelling positions inside Iraq, and asked was the Prime Minister disappointed that his council had not been heard, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister was not disappointed that his council had not been listened to. The Turks continued to show restraint despite considerable provocation, and we continued to encourage the Turkish Government to seek a solution through dialogue with the Iraqi Government.
