Catholicism
« World Trade Organisation | Back to most recent briefing | European Council Summit »
Asked whether PMOS could give any guidance on stories this morning about the Prime Minister’s Catholicism, or impending conversion and was it correct that it would be sooner rather than later, the PMOS said these were matters of personal belief which he did not deal with. He dealt with Government policy, not matters of personal belief.
Put that the Prime Minister had a constitutional role in advising the Church of England, making it not a personal matter, the PMOS said in terms of the personal belief aspect, it was entirely a personal matter. The Prime Minister had always fulfilled his constitutional role.
