Asked that now the Prime Minister’s agent had said that there would be a Blair Foundation for sport, were we now able to shed any light on his plans after the 27th June, the PMOS replied that he was not. He was the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman, not the "next week ex Prime Minister’s Spokesman". Asked who the ex Prime Minister’s Spokesman would be, the PMOS replied that this was premature as he was not yet the ex Prime Minister. Asked to shed any light on an Al Jazeera report that the Prime Minister would be hosting Middle East peace talks after he stepped down, the PMOS replied that there would be a lot of speculation about what the Prime Minister would go on to do over the next week or so. Asked for the Prime Minister’s reaction to the story that Gordon Brown was considering bringing Liberal Democrats into the Government, the PMOS replied that that was a party political question. Asked for reaction to the comments in Iran, Pakistan, and now Malaysia on Salmon Rushdie’s knighthood, the PMOS replied that the reasons for the honour were set out, and therefore we should leave it at that. Asked if there was any concern that this was causing consternation in various parts of the world, the PMOS replied that that was for those reacting to justify, not for us. It was perfectly legitimate to honour an individual. Briefing took place at 9:00 | Search for related news Original PMOS briefings are © Crown Copyright.
