Knife Crime

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the Leader of the Opposition that Radio 1 should stop playing certain types of Hip-hop music on Saturday nights because it was encouraging the ‘knife culture’, the PMOS said that this issue needed to be examined fully and a considered response given. He was not going to give a knee-jerk response on this.

  1. Westley Odger’s Mum says "Whilst the Violent Crime Reduction Bill has recently proposed further and better rules to help curb ‘Knife Crime’…it is clear that implementing the Law is quite another issue! What is being done about the over-crowding of the Prisons…’Tougher Sentences’ are needed to send out the correct message, therefore a complete over-haul of the Sentencing strategy is needed. Without doubt Violent Offenders need a harsh lesson, not ‘soft-options’.

A person who carries a ‘Knife’ on Britain’s Streets represents a threat to the Public in the same way as if they were equipped with a ‘Gun’…the Government has introduced ‘Mandatory’ sentences for carrying a ‘GUN’…we must now see the same for ‘KNIVES’.

My Son Westley was stabbed at 3pm in the afternoon…a sunny Monday, 12th September, 2005. All the efforts to save him failed…he’d just had his 27th Birthday. The ‘Fredericks Brothers’ responsible for his death were known for violence and carrying ‘knives’…people were even afraid to give evidence! They were a ‘murder waiting to happen’ and had repeatedly avoided ‘Custodial sentences’…one should ask why the Public are not being protected. An offence in April 2005 which should have resulted in the Prison Term – the Fredericks being found to be carrying a Samurai Sword with intent…meant Westley died in September, 2005! Westley death was needless…this family will never be the same as a result of ‘Soft-options’. People are asking me all the time to continue my campaign to ‘highlight this issue’ as there’s fear in the Towns and the rural areas, both day and night! Parents worry for their children and loved-ones…all ages are affected!"
