  1. The idea that everyone pays into a basic pension seems fine on the surface. My feeling is if this is agreed it should be the same pension system for everyone. We do not want repititions of pensions mis-selling, Equitable Life, failed occupational schemes etc etc that we have seen in the past. I would also like to see the only pensions tax releif to be part of government run schemes such as being part of National Savings. I feel all private pension schemes with tax relief should be scrapped. We have a nightmare pensions system in the private financial sector at the moment, in fact, in my opinion, the returns are so bad no one would invest in these schemes if it were not for the tax relief. It would give a level playing field to everyone, make regulation easier (and cheaper!) cut down on the cost of numerous inquiries into what went wrong and we would not have this continual worry and heart ache that has been caused to so many people who have saved for their old age and then find that they are left with nothing.
