Asked for an update on the situation, the PMS replied we continued to monitor the situation closely and we were doing everything we could to try and secure their release.
The Government was in regular contact with the family and we were providing consular support through the FCO. The Prime Minister’s view was that hostage taking was never justified and the PMS repeated the Government’s call that Paul and Rachel Chandler should be released immediately and unconditionally.
