Put that there had been a report in the Sunday Times that the Government was planning to introduce plain packaging for cigarette cartons, the PMS replied that there was a public consultation in 2008 that indicated there would be strong support for introducing plain packaging. The position at the moment was that we were carefully considering whether to make tobacco companies use plain packets
The Government was also looking at the legal implications of such a move as well as the intellectual property rights and freedom of trade issues.
