Asked to respond to criticisms from RBS and the City that the Treasury is taking control of bonuses, the PMS said that the government had been clear that the old culture of short term, unrestricted bonuses was inappropriate. He said that we had put in place a new approach to bonuses where they would have to be proportionate, subject to clawback, and should enable people to have a long term commitment to the company they work for.
