HizbB ut-Tahrir

Asked if the Prime Minister was concerned that it appeared that public funds were given to schools that had past links with the organisation, the PMS replied that it was his understanding that this was not a banned group and the schools had been inspected and approved by Ofsted. They were both independent schools and were found to be meeting the appropriate standards.
The Prime Minister had made a commitment to write to the leader of the Opposition, and the Secretary of State would be writing to his counterpart. Asked if the Prime Minister was satisfied that because the group had not been banned and Ofsted had made an inspection there was no issue, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister would set out his answers in more detail in a letter.
Put that Tony Blair had said four years ago that Hizb ut-Tahrir would be banned and this still had not happened, the PMS said that any decision on prescription must be based on evidence that a group was in breach of the Terrorism Act of 2000.
