Asked about the Prime Minister s meeting with Peter Robinson and Martin McGuiness, the PMS said that the meetings yesterday had been positive and progress was being made. Complex issues were involved so it was important for the engagement to continue, and it was a good sign that there was another meeting within twenty-four hours of the last one. If we felt we were able to say something after today s meeting then we would do so.
Asked for the Prime Minister s thoughts about the negotiations in Northern Ireland regarding funding, the PMS said that he would go into detail; we had made clear that it was a good sign that a follow-up meeting was taking place today and that there was a sense of momentum. Significant progress had been made; it was only two weeks ago that the parties met in New York and at this stage it was important that the momentum was pursued.
Asked about the Prime Minister s views regarding funding, the PMS said that the financial package was one of the issues being discussed.
