Afghanistan

Put that General Dutton had agreed with McChrystal that more troops were needed in Afghanistan, the PMS replied that we had consistently said that we would wait for the election process to be completed and the McChrystal Review to be properly looked at by the appropriate bodies including NATO. The Prime Minister had made clear throughout that the most important aspect of the next stage was the Afghanisation process which involved the recruiting and training of Afghanistan police and soldiers.
Put that the possibility of more troops was still an option, the PMS said that we would look at the question of troop numbers as and when the elements that he had mentioned had been looked at. We were looking at this as a sequence; the election process followed by discussion of the McChrystal Review.
