Put that Frank Field had today given a speech on "the English question" and asked if the Prime Minister had any thoughts on how to address peoples’ worries in relation to that, the PMS said that the Prime Minister thought that we needed to do more to push our localism agenda and that more needed to be done to devolve decision-making down to the local level, which was a key part of his public service reform agenda. However, the Prime Minister was also clear that he was a strong believer in the union and that we should not do anything that put the union at risk.
Asked if the Prime Minister had received the letter from Alex Salmond regarding oil taxes yet, the PMS said that, as of late last night, the letter had not been received.
