Sir Gulam Noon

Asked what reconstruction purpose had been for the 300 paratroopers that had taken part in an organised assault against the Taliban in the Sangin Valley, the PMOS said that we had made it clear right from the beginning, and indeed the John Reid speech that had been widely part-quoted had made clear that British forces, whilst there was no desire to take part in action, would do so if it was to guard the reconstruction effort. This was what people had seen, we had always made it clear that reconstruction also meant creating the security circumstances to allow reconstruction to take place.
