Downing Street Says » Margaret Hodge

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with Margaret Hodge’s comments that Iraq was his biggest mistake, the PMOS said that he had not seen the comments and could not reply but said that for the first time there was a democratically elected government in Iraq, there was a Prime Minister and government which is trying to bring the country together. The PMOS went on to say that while there were difficulties in Iraq, which no one is disputing, what was important was people were working towards a situation where Iraqis will be able to take responsibility for their own affairs.

Asked if it was acceptable for a Minister to say that the Prime Minister had always suffered from ‘moral imperialism’ and criticising policy in Iraq, the PMOS said that he hadn’t seen the comments and could therefore not comment.

Its funny the PM’s spokesman can’t agree with Hodge’s disaster claim when the PM agreed with it less than 24 hours later.
