Put that the Financial Times had published some quotes from the President of the CBI and what was the response to the charge that the G20 would focus on the wrong issues, the PMS said that we would not accept that. The G20 would have a very wide-ranging agenda; of course it would deal with issues relating to monetary and fiscal policy and some of the central issues relating to the world economy. It was also important that as we reformed the global regulatory system, we did look at the culture in banks and central to that was their remuneration system, so we did have to look at this. We also needed to address regulatory gaps in the global financial architecture and that included looking at off-shore centres and tax havens.
Asked how much of a push would issues surrounding protectionism and free trade get at G20, the PMS replied that there were clearly different views on this and that was why we needed to have a debate and discussion about it ahead of the G20. The Prime Minister s views on this were very clear.
