When asked about the government?s support for the Iraqi government in the fight against ISIL – particularly in light of the reported fall of Tikrit – the Prime Minister?s Official Spokesperson (PMOS) said it pointed to some of the challenges the Iraqi government faced. In respect of the UK government?s role, the PMOS said it had the right approach in continuing to provide support through Tornado sorties, UAVs that carry out airstrikes and intelligence gathering, and the provision of military training with particular regard for IEDs.
