Home Office inquiry

Asked when the terms of reference of the overarching inquiry into the handling of child abuse allegations by public institutions would be announced, the Prime Minister?s Spokesperson (PMS) said they would be published as soon as possible after the Home Secretary had discussed them with the chair of the Panel.

Asked about why Baroness Butler-Sloss had been appointed to lead the inquiry, the PMS explained that she was a well-respected figure, who being a former President of the Family Division of the High Court and chair of the Cleveland Child Abuse Inquiry, made her a strong appointment for role. The PMS said that other members would add to the breadth of the expertise on the Panel.
