Queen at Cabinet
The PMS provided details of the Queen’s visit to Cabinet, that the main business discussed at Cabinet was the G8, adoption and Afghanistan. Prior to the meeting, the Queen was presented with 60 place mats as a gift from Cabinet ministers, as well as a donation to the Diamond Jubilee Trust. The Foreign Secretary was also to rename a British Antarctic territory ‘Queen Elizabeth Land’.

Asked what Downing Street’s position was on the Andrew Mitchell gate incident after a police officer had been arrested over the weekend, the PMS said that the position remained the same. As the Cabinet Secretary had said in his letter to the Shadow Home Secretary, there was a genuine difference in view.
