National Security

Asked who was responsible for writing the National Security Strategy, the Prime Minister’s Spokesperson (PMS) said that it would be compiled by the National Security Advisor and his staff with the involvement of the relevant departments.

Asked which dates the document would cover, the PMS explained that it would look ahead to the future and certainly ahead to the next decade but that it would not rest there; it would continue to be considered and updated all the time and these things would be considered on an ongoing basis by the NSC.

Asked about departments settling their CSR plans with the Treasury, the PMS said most departments would settle with the Treasury over the course of this week adding that further detail could be provided by the Treasury on this matter.

Asked on the possibility of further talks around the National Security Strategy, the PMS said final decisions would be published and that good progress had been made.

Asked for further detail on the agenda of the meeting of the National Security Council, the PMS confirmed that the right meetings were happening and the right issues were being discussed.

Asked if service chiefs were present at the National Security Council, the PMS confirmed that the Chief of Defence Staff was present.
