Asked to clarify Government policy on further EU Treaties/new Treaties, the PMS said, first of all, the Prime Minister made clear in his Statement in the House on the 17 December 2007 that the Government opposes further institutional change in the relationship between the EU and the member states and that secondly, the conclusions of the December 2007 Council made clear that the Lisbon Treaty provides the EU with a stable and lasting institutional framework and thirdly, we don’t actually expect further institutional change.
Asked when Mr Sarkozy arrives if he will raise this issue of the European Monetary Fund (EMF) and was he bringing his finance minister with him to meet the Chancellor, the PMS said we don’t know what is specifically on the agenda.
