X Factor

Asked if there was a message from the Prime Minister to the X Factor winner, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was not able to watch X Factor. The Prime Minister had said that he wished all three of the finalists well and the PMS understood that the Prime Minister had written private messages to all three. The PMS added that he had also sent a message of congratulations to the winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Asked if the Prime Minister thought that there was some merit in Simon Cowell having some role in a political X Factor, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister was of the view that we should widen the democratic process, which was why he had put forward a series of constitutional reform initiatives; if Mr Cowell wished to contribute to that process he would be welcome to do so.
