Copenhagen

Put that the White House had said that the President would not attend the Climate Change Summit and did the Prime Minister still intend to go, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister did intend to go. The Prime Minister had said in September that showing leadership in Copenhagen was important and he was very conscious that it was a significant summit. There was a lot of work to be done before Copenhagen but the Prime Minister thought that showing leadership at this point was significant.
Put that if President Obama did not go, would the Prime Minister think that he was showing a lack of leadership, the PMS said that the Prime Minister took his own decision in September. Clearly he was keen for other leaders to be there, but it was the Prime Minister’s own statement of intent as this was a subject he felt very strongly about.
Asked what responses from other leaders the Prime Minister had had, the PMS said there were a number of leaders who had indicated that they were going to be there.
