Northern Ireland
« Gary McKinnon | Back to most recent briefing | President Obama »
Asked what the Prime Minister thought that Hilary Clinton could bring to the negotiations in Northern Ireland, the PMS replied that the US was an important player in the process. Over the years, US Presidents and key officials had been involved in discussions on Northern Ireland. Asked what else would be on the agenda in the meeting between Hilary Clinton and the Prime Minister, the PMS said that there would be a range of other issues discussed, but nothing specific that he could say here.
The PMS added that the Prime Minister had had a further meeting at Downing Street last night with the First Minister and Deputy First Minister and they continued to make good progress. Put that there had been suggestions that there might be a letter from the Prime Minister, the PMS confirmed this. The Prime Minister would write to the First and Deputy First Ministers to set out the position in more detail.
