Asked why the Prime Minister had decided to dispense with the services of Elliot Morley as his climate change envoy, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) said that in light of the investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner, the decision had been taken to suspend Elliot Morley from his informal role as the Prime Minister s Representative on a group called the Global Legislator s Organisation for a Balanced Environment. The PMS explained that the organisation is a group of parliamentarians from the major countries who meet to discuss climate change issues.
Asked whether a substitute had been named for Mr Morley, the PMS said there were no current plans for a substitute.
Asked whether the Prime Minister broke the news to Mr Morley himself, or spoke to Mr Morley, the PMS said questions about backbench MPs and the Labour Party were best addressed to the Labour Party.
Asked whether, given Mr Morley said he had paid back money two weeks ago, the Prime Minister knew about this two weeks ago, the PMS again referred the question to the Labour Party.
