Asked for the Prime Minister’s view on President Obama’s support for Turkey’s membership of the European Union, the PMS said the Government supported Turkish membership of the European Union and that had been our long standing position. He said Turkey had come a long way in recent years. The technical negotiations, which were part of Turkey’s accession process, had been in the view of the British Government a major driver of reform.
