Asked if the Prime Minister had any views on the President Elect s comments on the US fiscal stimulus package for next year, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had outlined his views on the desirability of fiscal stimulus and the need for action to be taken internationally. It was not for the Prime Minister to comment on the specifics of any action taken by individual countries at this point. Discussions were still ongoing in America, but the Prime Minister had already made clear that for fiscal stimuli to have most effect, they were best coordinated at the international level. Put that Germany s Economy Minister had said that he hoped that Germany s export economy would benefit from the fiscal stimulus packages announced around the world and asked if that was a helpful comment, the PMS said that he did not want to comment on the specifics of exactly what had been said in that instance. However, the Prime Minister had made clear that in order to maximise the benefit from fiscal stimulus, we needed to coordinate on an international level. Germany had already announced a fiscal stimulus package and we welcomed it. Briefing took place at 11:00 | Search for related news Original PMOS briefings are © Crown Copyright.
