Cabinet

The Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) began by giving a quick run-down of Cabinet. Cabinet had met this morning for around 45 minutes. The discussion was mostly on the economy; there was an update from Alastair Darling, including the responses being taken by other countries to stabilise their banking systems.

There was an intervention from Lord Mandelson, setting out the Government s proposals to help small and medium enterprises; there was an intervention from Ed Miliband on energy policy and climate change in the aftermath of his statement to the House last Thursday and there was an update from Jacqui Smith on the situation and the Government s approach to dealing with knife crime.
