Northern Ireland

In response to reports this afternoon that David Trimble had withdrawn from the Good Friday Agreement review, the PMOS informed journalists that Mr Trimble would be meeting the Prime Minister tomorrow in Downing Street where, no doubt, today’s developments would be discussed. The meeting had been scheduled before today. Asked if the Prime Minister would be seeing other Northern Ireland politicians, the PMOS said that the Prime Minister was in regular contact with all the key players, as you would expect.

  1. I’ll be the first to stand up and point out that I just don’t understand what’s happening. Not the technical details: I understand the facts as they are presented; merely the more human angle – I find it completely unfathomable how a civilised people in a modern nation can live day-to-day lives with this kind of aberration, a festering wound of hatred, going uncared for.

  2. Living in Glasgow you get to understand {well misunderstand for the understanding is impossible seeing that it is irrational} the idiocy that is sectarianism.
thousands of people who have no idea what its all actually about, consumed with pointless hatred and a bizarre fundamentalist patriotism all hammering at each other like children in a school playground.
Although over here it seems to be more about football tribalism and drinking too much buckfast.
some people dont like peace and only want to hate.

it might help you get some idea if you head over to http://sluggerotoole.com/ and take a look round. if you persevere you might get a clue about why people feel what they feel about our little corner of the world.

the comments boxes have basically the whole spectrum of political views represented in some form or other.
