Special Advisers

Asked about the Government policy on special adviser appointments, the PMS said that in a coalition Government it was necessary to have more special advisers in certain departments to maintain the effective working of Government. Information on the number of special advisers and the overall wage bill was published regularly.

Answering a query on the need for stronger legislation to govern business appointments of ex-military officers, the PMS said that the Defence Secretary had set out the Government’s concern over the issue. The Government was considering the PASC’s reports on business appointments.

Rwanda

Oil Reserves

Asked whether the US had contacted the Government regarding the release of oil reserves, the PMS said that the PM had been clear that the topic had been discussed but no decisions had been made.
